Geography and Location
Gwer East is situated in the central part of Benue State, sharing borders with the Makurdi, Tarka, Gboko, Konshisha, Otukpo, and Gwer West Local Government Areas. The region's topography is characterized by fertile plains and undulating hills typical of the Middle Belt savanna region. Its administrative headquarters, Aliade, serves as a vital transit point on the federal highway linking the state capital, Makurdi, to the southern parts of Nigeria. The local climate is marked by distinct wet and dry seasons, which support a diverse range of vegetation and wildlife.
Economy and Agriculture
The economy of Gwer East is predominantly agrarian, with the majority of the population engaged in both subsistence and commercial farming. It is a major producer of yams, cassava, soybeans, and citrus fruits, contributing significantly to Benue State's status as the 'Food Basket of the Nation.' Local markets in Aliade and surrounding districts facilitate the trade of these commodities to merchants from across the country.
