Ogbadibo is situated at the southwestern edge of Benue State, sharing boundaries with Kogi State to the west and Enugu State to the south. Its location lies near routes linking Benue with neighboring states, making it a transit point for travelers and goods. The landscape consists primarily of tropical savannah, characterized by a mix of tall grasses and deciduous trees. The area experiences distinct wet and dry seasons, typical of the Nigerian middle belt climate.
Administrative Structure and Settlements
The local government area was created in 1991 and is organized into three prominent districts: Otukpa, Orokam, and Owukpa. Otukpa functions as the administrative headquarters where the local government secretariat is located. These districts are further partitioned into council wards for grassroots political representation. The traditional leadership is hierarchical, with district heads overseeing various communities under the paramount leadership of the Och'Idoma.
Economy and Mineral Resources
Agriculture is the mainstay of the Ogbadibo economy, with the local population engaged in the cultivation of yams, cassava, maize, and citrus fruits. The area is particularly noted for its significant production of palm oil and palm kernels, which are traded in local markets like the Orokam and Otukpa markets. Beyond farming, Owukpa is known for coal deposits. These coal reserves have historically drawn attention for their potential to contribute to Nigeria's energy sector and industrial growth.

The inhabitants of Ogbadibo are predominantly members of the Idoma ethnic group, sharing a rich linguistic and cultural heritage.
