Geography and Administration
Obi Local Government Area is situated in the southern part of Benue State, functioning as a vital administrative unit within the state's political structure. It was officially created in 1996 during the military regime of General Sani Abacha, having been carved out of the pre-existing Oju Local Government Area. The administrative seat is located in Obarike-Ito, which serves as the primary gateway for government services and regional trade. The area shares its borders with Oju to the south, Ado to the west, and Otukpo Local Government Area to the north.
People and Culture
The local government is predominantly inhabited by the Igede people, who represent one of the major ethnic groups in Benue State. Cultural life in Obi is deeply rooted in tradition, with the annual Igede Agba festival serving as a major highlight for the community. This festival celebrates the new yam harvest and provides a platform for showcasing Igede music, dance, and ancestral heritage. Traditional governance still plays a significant role in social cohesion, operating alongside the modern local government council to manage communal affairs.

The economy of Obi Local Government Area is fundamentally driven by agriculture, which employs the vast majority of its residents.
