Atisbo Local Government Area is situated in the northern part of Oyo State, falling within the prominent Oke-Ogun geopolitical zone. The administrative headquarters is located in the town of Tede. The LGA shares its western international boundary with the Republic of Benin, making it a strategic border region. The name "Atisbo" is an acronym derived from the first letters of its principal constituent settlements, which include Ago-Are, Tede, Irawo, Sabe, Baasi, and Owo. It was officially created in October 1996 during the administration of General Sani Abacha, having been carved out of the former Ifedapo Local Government Area.
Economy and Occupation
The economy of Atisbo is predominantly agrarian, with a large percentage of the population engaged in subsistence and commercial agriculture. The fertile savannah terrain supports the extensive cultivation of food and cash crops such as yams, cassava, maize, guinea corn, and cashew nuts.
