Geography and Location

Sabuwa is one of the southern local government areas of Katsina State, sharing a significant boundary with Kaduna State to the south and west. It is bordered by Faskari Local Government Area to the north and Dandume to the east. The terrain is characterized by the Guinea Savannah vegetation zone, which provides a mix of grassland and woodland suitable for both farming and grazing. Key settlements within the district include the administrative capital of Sabuwa, as well as Damari, Dugun Mu'azu, and Gamji. Its location allows it to serve as a link between Katsina and parts of Kaduna State, facilitating local movement and trade.

Economy and Agriculture

The economy of Sabuwa is predominantly agrarian, with the vast majority of the inhabitants engaged in crop production and livestock rearing. The fertile soil supports the cultivation of various staples including maize, guinea corn, millet, and beans. It is particularly noted for the production of soya beans and groundnuts, which are transported to larger urban markets for processing. Local trade is facilitated through periodic markets where farmers and merchants from neighboring Kaduna State exchange agricultural commodities. Small-scale artisanal activities and local commerce also contribute to the economic livelihood of the resident population.

History and Administration

Sabuwa was originally part of the older Faskari Local Government Area before it was carved out to enhance local administrative efficiency. It operates under the Katsina State local government system with an administrative structure consisting of an executive council and various departments. The area is divided into several wards, each represented by a councillor who assists in grassroots governance and community development. Traditional authority remains a cornerstone of the social fabric, with district and village heads playing significant roles in dispute resolution and cultural preservation. The administration focuses on providing essential services such as primary education, rural health clinics, and the maintenance of feeder roads.
