The Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation manages dams, river basins, irrigation, national water-supply policy, hydropower at the dam interface, and sanitation programmes linked to public health and the Sustainable Development Goals.
It supervises the twelve River Basin Development Authorities, the National Water Resources Institute in Kaduna, the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency, the Nigeria Integrated Water Resources Management Commission, and the Clean Nigeria: Use the Toilet campaign to end open defecation.
Current priorities include the Partnership for Expanded Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (PEWASH) with states; completion of dam projects such as Kashimbila, Dasin Hausa and Mambilla; expansion of irrigation under the Transforming Irrigation Management in Nigeria (TRIMING) project; flood-risk early warning; and the National Action Plan for the Revitalisation of the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Sector.

Drives generation, transmission, distribution and electrification policy through TCN, NERC, the Rural Electrification Agency and the Electricity Act 2023 enabling state electricity markets.
