The Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment regulates the workplace, mediates industrial disputes, promotes employment generation, and enforces occupational safety and Nigeria's commitments under International Labour Organization conventions.
It supervises the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), the National Productivity Centre, the Industrial Arbitration Panel, the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies, and the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) which administers the Employees' Compensation Scheme.
Strategic priorities include implementation of the new National Minimum Wage of ₦70,000, social-dialogue with the NLC and TUC, expansion of NDE skills and self-employment programmes, occupational safety enforcement particularly in mining and construction, the National Employment Policy, and labour-migration agreements that protect Nigerian workers abroad.
