Sports Development

Minister: John Enoh

Mandate

The Federal Ministry of Sports Development promotes grassroots and elite sport, supervises stadiums and federations, and represents Nigeria at continental and global competitions.

It works with the National Sports Commission and the National Institute for Sports, supervises federal sports facilities including the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja and the National Stadium in Lagos, and coordinates with national federations such as the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Athletics Federation of Nigeria, and Nigeria Olympic Committee.

Current priorities include positioning sports as a business through the National Policy on Sports Development, talent identification programmes for youth, infrastructure rehabilitation across the six geopolitical zones, support for the Super Eagles, Super Falcons and D'Tigers, and Nigeria's preparation for the 2026 Commonwealth Games and 2027 Africa Cup of Nations co-hosting bid.
