The Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning coordinates the preparation of the federal budget, the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework, and Nigeria's national development plans, including monitoring and evaluation of public programmes.
It supervises the Budget Office of the Federation, the National Planning Commission functions, the National Bureau of Statistics, the Centre for Management Development, and the Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research (NISER).
Strategic priorities include implementing Nigeria Agenda 2050 and the medium-term National Development Plan 2021–2025, embedding performance-based budgeting, expanding the use of GIFMIS for transparent expenditure tracking, and aligning capital spending with the Renewed Hope Agenda's growth, jobs and human-capital targets.
