The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security sets national policy for crop and livestock production, agribusiness development, agricultural research, rural extension services, and food security across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones.
It supervises parastatals including the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA), the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria, the National Agricultural Seeds Council, and the Nigeria Agricultural Insurance Corporation. The ministry also coordinates input subsidy programmes, farmer registration, and value-chain interventions in priority commodities such as rice, maize, cassava, wheat and dairy.
Current strategic priorities include the National Agricultural Development Fund, the Renewed Hope dry-season farming initiative, mechanisation through tractor assembly partnerships, and emergency interventions to lower food prices in response to inflation.
