Art, Culture and the Creative Economy

Mandate

The Federal Ministry of Art, Culture and the Creative Economy promotes Nigeria's heritage, museums, festivals, and the country's growing creative industries spanning film, music, fashion, design, gaming and digital content.

It oversees agencies such as the National Council for Arts and Culture, the National Gallery of Art, the National Theatre, the National Commission for Museums and Monuments, and the Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilisation. Cultural diplomacy and Nigeria's participation in UNESCO heritage frameworks also fall under its remit.

Strategic priorities include the Creative Economy Development Fund, the Destination 2030 plan to make culture and creativity a leading non-oil revenue source, restitution of looted artefacts including the Benin Bronzes, restoration of the National Theatre in Lagos, and skills programmes for young creatives.
