The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, led by the Coordinating Minister, oversees national health policy, public health systems, hospitals, drug regulation, health insurance, and the social-welfare interface with healthcare delivery.
It supervises the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), and federal teaching and specialist hospitals.
Strategic priorities include the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative, the Sector-Wide Approach with development partners, expansion of the Basic Health Care Provision Fund, revitalisation of 8,800 primary health centres, the Health Workforce Migration Policy, and accelerating health-product manufacturing under PVAC.

Sets policy for the upstream, midstream and downstream oil and gas value chain, with the President as substantive Minister and separate Ministers of State for Oil and Gas, supervising NUPRC, NMDPRA and NNPC Ltd.

Advances gender equality, women's empowerment and protection from violence through the National Centre for Women Development, gender desks across MDAs and Sexual Assault Referral Centres.
