Hawul LGA is located in southern Borno, sharing boundaries with Biu, Shani, Bayo, and Kwaya Kusar LGAs, as well as parts of Adamawa State. The terrain is characterized by undulating plains and rocky hills typical of the Biu Plateau region. The Hawul River, from which the LGA derives its name, serves as a significant geographical feature and water source for the area. The vegetation is primarily Sudan Savannah, supporting various flora and fauna native to the northeastern Nigerian highlands.
