Geography and Landscape
Jos East is located in the central part of Plateau State, bordering Bauchi State to the east and the Jos North and Jos South LGAs to the west. The landscape is characterized by high-altitude rocky formations, most notably the Shere Hills, which offer some of the highest peaks in Northern Nigeria. This rugged terrain significantly influences the local climate, resulting in cooler temperatures compared to many other parts of the country. Administration and Governance
Created in 1991, Jos East was established following the administrative division of the former Jos Local Government Area to facilitate better local governance. It is divided into several administrative wards, with Angware serving as the administrative seat where the local government secretariat is located. The administration is responsible for providing basic social services, maintaining rural infrastructure, and overseeing local markets. Governance is led by an elected or appointed chairman and a council of representatives from the various wards.
