Geography and Location
Abaji is situated in the extreme southwestern part of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nigeria. It shares strategic geographic boundaries with Kogi State to the south and Niger State to the west. The area council spans approximately 992 square kilometres of landform characterised by undulating terrains and savannah vegetation. Because of its location on the major highway linking Abuja to Lokoja, Abaji serves as a crucial gateway for travellers moving between the northern and southern regions of the country.
Demographics and Culture
The population of Abaji Area Council comprises a diverse blend of ethnic groups, reflecting the cosmopolitan nature of the broader FCT while retaining deep indigenous roots. The primary indigenous groups include the Egbura, Ganagana, and Bassa people, along with other local communities. These indigenous communities have rich cultural traditions, often celebrated through annual festivals, traditional dances, and local craftsmanship. In recent years, the population has expanded to include various other Nigerians drawn by the region's agricultural prospects and proximity to the nation's capital.
