Geography and Location
Bassa Local Government Area, part of the Kogi East Senatorial District, is situated in the north-central portion of the state near the Niger–Benue confluence. The Niger River forms its western boundary, while the Benue River flows along its southern borders. The area's proximity to these major waterways creates a fertile landscape characterized by lush vegetation and alluvial soil. Its administrative headquarters is situated in the town of Oguma. The terrain is largely undulating, with the riverine nature of the region significantly influencing both the local climate and the primary occupations of the inhabitants.
People and Culture
The LGA is notable for its rich cultural diversity, being primarily home to three major ethnic groups: the Bassa-Nge, the Bassa-Komo, and the Egbira Koto. These groups maintain distinct linguistic traditions and social structures while coexisting within the administrative unit. Administratively, Bassa is divided into several wards governed by a local government council headquartered in Oguma.
