Oredo Local Government Area is situated in the south-central portion of Edo State and serves as the core of the state's capital, Benin City. It shares boundaries with Egor to the northwest, Ikpoba-Okha to the east and south, and Ovia North-East to the west. The area is characterized by a tropical rainforest climate and serves as the primary urban hub for the region. Its central location makes it one of the most densely populated, urbanized, and commercially important local government areas in Edo State.

Oredo is globally recognized as the historic center of the Benin Empire, one of the oldest and most highly developed states in West Africa.
