Ishielu is situated in the western part of Ebonyi State, sharing boundaries with Enugu State to the west and Ohaukwu LGA to the north. The area serves as a transit corridor, with the Enugu-Abakaliki Expressway passing through several of its major communities. The Enugu-Abakaliki road corridor passes through parts of the LGA, linking it to Abakaliki and Enugu.
