Geography and Location
Yenagoa LGA is centrally located within Bayelsa State and serves as the administrative hub for the region. Historical Development
The area gained significant national importance in 1996 when the city of Yenagoa was designated as the capital of the newly created Bayelsa State, which was excised from the old Rivers State. Prior to this administrative status, Yenagoa was a collection of riverine settlements primarily inhabited by Epie-Atissa and various Izon-speaking peoples. Since becoming a state capital, the LGA has undergone rapid urbanization and infrastructural expansion to accommodate the influx of government institutions. This growth has transformed the area from a series of fishing villages into a bustling metropolitan center.
