Geography and Location
Keffi is situated in the western part of Nasarawa State, serving as a vital gateway between the state and Nigeria's Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The LGA shares boundaries with Karu to the west and Kokona to the east, making it a critical junction for commerce and administration. Historical Background
The town was founded in the early 19th century by Abdu Zanga, a Fulani leader, and the Keffi Emirate later became part of the Sokoto Caliphate sphere. During the early colonial period, Keffi became the site of a notable historical confrontation in 1902 involving the British Resident, Captain Moloney, and the Magajin Keffi. This incident was one episode in the broader British conquest and pacification of the Nasarawa/Keffi area and Northern Nigeria in the early 1900s. Today, the Emir of Keffi remains a highly respected traditional authority, preserving the heritage and cultural identity of the local population.
Economy and Education
The local economy is primarily driven by agriculture, retail trade, and the service sector, benefiting from the high volume of traffic between Nasarawa and Abuja.
