Geography and Location
Edu is situated in the northeastern part of Kwara State, sharing an extensive northern boundary with the River Niger. It lies along the river in northern and eastern Kwara and shares boundaries with neighboring Local Government Areas such as Patigi and Moro. The terrain is characterized by low-lying floodplains and fertile alluvial soils, which are influenced by the seasonal fluctuations of the river. This geographic positioning makes the area one of the most ecologically diverse and agriculturally viable regions in the state.
Economy and Industry
The local economy is predominantly driven by large-scale and subsistence agriculture, with a specific focus on rice and sugarcane production. Edu hosts Bacita, home of the Nigerian Sugar Company sugar estate and factory, once a cornerstone of Nigeria's domestic sugar industry.
